Malika Yapa, AIA (SL), RIBA (UK)

As an Architect & Designer born and raised in Sri Lanka, Malika has spent over a decade honing her craft and developing her design sensibility to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also functional, sustainable, and affordable. Her passion lies in using her architectural expertise to make a lasting impact on the communities and environments she works in, transforming them into places that inspire, uplift, and empower people. For Malika, design is not just a job but a calling, a way to make a positive and meaningful difference in people’s lives and communities.

Driven by a deep sense of purpose, Malika has worked on a range of projects from various perspectives and contexts. During her time in New York, she worked at several firms including Barratt Design and Development, ARX New York, Architizer and lastly Hollwich Kushner Architecture, where she was a key team member on several milestone projects, including the award-winning Die Macherei building in Germany, the WeLive housing prototypes, and the Casper flagship store. In addition to her work in New York, Malika collaborated with Wolgamott works on a series of bespoke tree houses and worked with Anisa Romero Art + Design on a series of interior design projects.

In Sri Lanka, Malika worked on the iconic Cinnamon Life Integrated mixed-used development project as the in-house architect. She also held senior positions at PWA Architects, where she specialized in residential, hospitality, and mixed-use projects. Her passion for creating a difference within her community led her to work on several private projects, including a senior citizen retirement community, low-cost residential housing projects, and several interior projects. Malika currently works at Think Wilder Architecture, as a Project Manager and Architect, where her interests and purpose aligned with the core values and overall vision of the firm.

She attended Pratt Institute and obtained a Professional degree in Architecture and ventured on to becoming a Chartered Architect in Sri Lanka, as well as a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects in the UK. Malika has established herself as a leading expert in the field of architecture and design. Her creative vision, dedication to her craft, and commitment to using her skills to make a difference make her an inspiring leader and a valuable asset to any project.
